Trinity Participates in Dublin’s Café Scientifique.

The Café Scientifique forum for debating science issues is becoming popular in Dublin. Anybody can join to explore the latest ideas over a cup of coffee or a pint of beer. Meetings take place in cafés and bars, always outside a traditional academic context. Trinity scientists have contributed admirably to the budding Dublin group named ‘The Alchemists Café’, which hosts events monthly in the Exchequer Bar.

So far four TCD scientists have participated. A full house attended the café by Professor Michael Gill on mental health and its genetic influences. Dr. Mícheál Mac an Airchinnigh presented an interesting talk on ‘The Dance Of Maths’, about maths in everyday life. Professor John Pethica explained why nanobots are more science fiction than fact and Professor David McConnell hosted a discussion on the human genome project.
